There are so many new bands at the moment and Sheffield is overflowing with new worthy talent. Cube picks up its plectrum and looks at some of the best new bands in Sheffield.

Sheffield slang, amusing little stories, brilliant guitar riffs is just some of what you can expect from these lads from High Green. They have been the turnaround for indie music in Sheffield in recent months. The Arctic Monkeys are a 4 piece indie band. They consist of Alx Turner (lead vocals/guitar), Jamie Cook (guitar) Andy Nicholson (bass) and Matt Helders (drums) – and they all look like apes. Their first two singles I bet you look good on the dance floor, and When the sun goes down, both went straight to number one in the UK Singles Chart. ‘Whatever people say I am is what I am,’ the debut album by them also went straight to number one. The band won Best New Act at the 2006 Brit Awards, and Best New Band and Best British Band at the 2006 NME Awards.
Sheffield has got a lot more publicity at the mo, and bands like Arctic monkeys have put Sheffield back on the map. Their If you've been missing out on our very own cheeky monkeys check out www.arcticmonkeys.com and for a bit of fun check out www.barnsleylinks.co.uk/artexmonkey/ for their Barnsley artex cousins!

Milburn. Milburn who? A band from Sheffield? They must sound like the Arctic Monkeys then. Wrong, they are completely different. With their raving riffs, marvellous melodies and youthful ways to draw people in, the madness of Milburn are just as gripping as the Arctics. Milburn are another 4 piece indie band from Sheffield. The band consists of Joe Carnal (Lead vocals/guitar), Louis Carnal (Guitar/vocals), Tom Rowley (Guitarist) and Joe Green (drums). They’re not that famous yet but it won’t be long before they are as respected as the apes. They have already played sold out gigs with The Rifles and are getting more attention, like appearing on Channel 4’s Popworld. It looks like they will soon be challenging those Arctic Monkeys for the number 1 band slot in Sheffield. So if anyone mentions Milburn to you, don’t forget to blow your whistle and compliment them or they will send in the boys. Find out more things Milburn at www.milburnmusic.com

Hey chuck. Not just a greeting, a band too actually (well just the chuck bit!). Chuck are a small band from Sheffield and as Cube goes to press, not very well known. Oh well, doesn’t stop us at Cube from liking them as they are disturbingly good. They are an indie band with traces of punk and rock ‘n’ roll. Chuck consists of Darren (vocals, guitars), Rob (vocals, Guitar) Peter (bass) Mitch (drums, vocals). Definitely a must hear…and you heard it from Cube first. Check ‘em out at www.heychuck.com go on you know you want to!
