The Crucible Theatre.  Usually a place where classical music drabs on and the confusion of Shakespeare takes place (It might as well be a different language!). Well, that’s been my past experiences of it, maybe yours too? So I suppose you could understand me not being entirely sure whether to go again, but I heard the name ‘Disco Inferno’ and everything boring seemed to go out the window! I was looking forward to a Boogie on down to this one!

The production comes from ‘In Yer face’ theatre company, based in Sheffield who do work with local young people (more sense)  According the website, http://www.inyerface-theatre.com/  they are said to be “the best in new British drama today” and I guess that can’t be too far from the truth. They describe their work as new, original and exciting so what more can you ask for?

The main punch line to this disco frenzy was a dude called {name} who works as a bartender in a local club at a club.  Despite his raw talent for song and dance he’s yet to be spotted. That’s until the devils right hand Lady Marmalade offers him everything he’s ever wanted in return for…his soul.  Will he have time to correct his moves and realise he is slowly losing everything important or will his soul be lost for ever?!

There were definite good points to this performance and even the fact that it was only an amateur production by young people from Sheffield schools made it a more refreshing and interesting piece of theatre as everything wasn’t perfect all the time, but FUN!. There was excellent comic and original acting and particularly good singing from certain members of the group.

One other minor detail you will need to know is that it does involve a hell of a lot of songs (being a musical and all)! But I darn you not to enjoy the old disco numbers we are somehow born knowing (even at our age). I loved all the outfits and costume changes especially the glittery look and vibrant colours although some outfits weren’t, in my opinion, very flattering.

The only thing I thought personally let the whole performance down was the length…and the seating at the Crucible Theatre for that length! I think most would find it hard to sit for 3 hours however tremendous something was, but the worse part of the Crucible has to be the let down hard seats.  I think many children would have felt as fidgety as I did.  If they cut a few songs, especially at the end when they did two numbers after the final clap, it would have made the experience sweeter (best to leave us wanting more rather than wanting to leave).

Still don’t let that put you off a trip to the theatre, there’s something great about seeing something LIVE and look out for In Yer Face productions in the future…I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!
