inside there is warm, sudden enveloping bear hug of warm, all claws and teeth and tiny, terrified eyes. But outside there was nothing, empty air, empty park, toes curling, skin speckly, empty mind, and the tiny weak stars, sifting through the atmosphere, willing me on.
i looked back, to where the warmth and light spread out, tainting, spread out like a chemical spill into the black coldness, and i pulled my hood up, and i ignored the shattering of my veins, and i ran.
